01 选自水生动物展厅讲解词
Entering this hall, you see many colorful small fish in the cylindrical aquarium. They are collectively known as cichlid fish, mainly found in America and Africa, with around 2,000 species worldwide. For example, popular fish like the Discus Fish, Oscar Fish, Queen Angelfish, and Butterfly Fish are all cichlids. The cichlids in our aquarium come from the distant African continent.
Africa covers an area of about 30.2 million square kilometers, accounting for one-fifth of the Earth’s land area. The geographical environment varies greatly across Africa, showing a symmetrical pattern from north to south. There are three major lakes: Lake Tanganyika, Lake Malawi, and Lake Victoria. According to incomplete statistics, these three lakes host over 1,500 species of cichlid fish.
Cichlid fish are a marvel of natural evolution. Why do I say this? Because a single species can evolve into many different varieties in the same area, displaying vibrant colors, which is unique. Imagine the intense competition among so many cichlid fish living in the same lake. They must continuously evolve different colors and habits to survive. For example, some cichlid fish avoid competition for food by eating algae on rocks; others hide in sand to eat tiny insects; some specialize in eating the scales of larger fish, and some mimic other creatures to ambush their prey.
02 选自昆虫展厅讲解词
Insects belong to arthropods, and their bodies are composed of three parts: the head, thorax, and abdomen. The head is the first body segment of an insect's body, formed by the fusion of several body segments. The head-capsule is hard, and on its surface are antennae, compound eyes, ocelli, and mouthparts, which is the sensory and feeding center of the insect.
All insects have antennae, and the surface of the antennae has different types of sensilla. The antennae act as the nose and ears in an insect's life. Usually, the antennae of male insects are more developed than those of female insects. The sensitive antennae can help male insects smell the sex pheromones released by female insects and determine the position of the female insects, just like turning on a navigation system. Even in the pitch-black night, male insects can follow the smell to find the females relying on their antennae.
我们期待热爱科学、敢于表达的孩子加入,
